BZ Gas Grenades provides the gas used to put Vangelico’s occupants to sleep. Taking the entire Humane Labs van is enough for the story, but gold requires a different action: shoot open its rear doors and collect the dropped cargo. You do not need to destroy the vehicle.
Step-by-step walkthrough

Intercept the moving shipment
Read Lester’s message and follow the shipment marker. The Boxville is travelling through the city towards the airport, so use its current map position rather than looking for a permanently parked truck. Approach in a car you can control easily and leave space to brake behind the target.
Identify the Humane Labs truck, then move behind it to release the cargo. -
Shoot the back doors until the cargo falls
Move behind the Humane Labs Boxville and aim a suitable drive-by weapon at its rear doors. Fire controlled bursts until the doors open and the cases fall onto the road. Stop shooting once the cargo is released. Blowing up the vehicle or attacking its occupants adds risk without helping the Loose Cargo objective.

Stop safely and collect a case
Pull over close to the dropped cases, exit your car and collect the marked BZ gas cargo. Watch traffic before crossing the lane: frightened drivers can hit Michael while you are focused on the pickup. Confirm that the objective changes before leaving the area. You need the mission pickup, not the empty truck.

Lose the wanted level and deliver the gas
Break police line of sight, stay out of the search cones and wait until the stars disappear. Return to Darnell Bros. with the cargo. Follow the delivery marker inside the factory and upstairs to the designated room. If you took the whole van instead, follow its vehicle delivery marker; that route completes the setup but does not satisfy Loose Cargo on its own.

- Loose Cargo: Shoot open the van’s rear doors so that the cargo drops out. Simply hijacking and delivering the truck does not meet this requirement.
Common questions
Can I buy ordinary tear gas instead?
No. This setup requires the marked Humane Labs shipment. Store-bought equipment does not replace the mission cargo or complete the preparation.
Do I have to steal the whole van?
No. For gold, release the cases, pick up the marked cargo and leave in your own vehicle. Carrying the entire van back is only an alternative story-completion method.
