Mission walkthrough
-
Drive to Ocean Beach
Once you regain control near Ken Rosenberg's office, take the nearby car and follow the hotel marker. There is no race to win here. Use the journey to learn braking and the radar rather than cutting across the waterfront: Tommy cannot swim, including in The Definitive Edition.
-
Enter the Ocean View Hotel
Stop outside the marked entrance and walk inside. The hotel becomes the base for the opening stretch of the game. Head towards the upstairs marker to continue with An Old Friend and Tommy's call to Sonny.
-
Set up your first save
Use the hotel save point when it becomes available. Keep a separate manual slot before difficult jobs later on, especially in the classic release where a failed mission usually means returning to its starting marker.
Key point
The opening journey is not a timed combat mission. Exploring is possible, but going to the hotel first gives the story a clear starting point.
