Prologue teaches GTA 5's shooting, cover and character-switching controls during a robbery that goes wrong. Your task is to collect the money and reach the getaway route. There are no optional gold-medal objectives, so concentrate on the tutorial prompts rather than a speed run.
Step-by-step walkthrough
-
Move the hostages and open the vault
Walk to the staff and aim your weapon at them until they retreat into the back room. You do not need to shoot. When prompted, open the phone and call the detonator contact. After the explosion, follow the corridor into the vault and approach the marked cash to collect it.

Free Michael and reach the exit
A guard grabs Michael during the escape. Use the character-switch prompt to take control of Trevor, then aim at the guard's exposed head. Keep your shot clear of Michael. Rejoin the crew and use the indicated cover while Brad opens the next exit with explosives.
-
Fight through the police
Open the loading-bay shutter and take cover before firing. Clear officers blocking the route, then advance with the crew. Reload behind cover instead of walking into the road with an empty magazine. Work towards the road junction and the getaway car on the left; staying at the shutter will not finish this section.

Drive to the pickup point
Enter the car and wait for the crew. After the driver is killed, Michael takes over. Follow the marked route, brake before turns on the snowy road and take the right-hand detour at the roadblock. The collision at the railway crossing is scripted; it is not evidence that you chose the wrong route.
-
Hold off the final attack
When control returns to Trevor, use cover and shoot the approaching police until the next scene triggers. Follow this encounter through to the ending rather than searching for a helicopter to board.
Troubleshooting
If the opening objective does not advance, keep aiming at the hostages until they have moved. If Michael dies during the hostage scene, adjust Trevor's aim before firing. The train crash and later injuries are story events, not alternate outcomes you need to prevent.
What happens next
The story moves to Los Santos and Franklin and Lamar. Prologue has no gold checklist to revisit.
